Tatum, NM
Few times already I was surprised during my short trip that there are free campgrounds with full hook up. I agree those aren’t located in a most beautiful spots, but if you are just passing by it’s nice to be hooked up.
Certainly I never heard of Tatum, NM before and found out there is a campground from the website. It was located right were I needed a stop and full hookup allowed me to work on my newly purchased motorhome.
It’s not easy-to-find place if you have no GPS. There is a sign you might notice driving east, but nothing on the other way.
I won’t give much details on fixing stuff as there will be separate article about it, just mention I was able to install surge protector, clean black tank (which was either empty of full) and fix some minor electrical issues.
I was lucky to get WiFi password from nearby Senior house and browsing web I occasionally found myself on the TripAdvisor site looking for things to do and typed Tatum in there. It turned out there is a 1 thing to do — Poor Boy metal Art museum. I thought as the hole town is just few streets I’ll find it without directions riding my bicycle. I wouldn’t notice all the metal work in town If I just drove by without reading about it.
The place I’ve found was quite sad. Lots of amazing signs and other pieces of metal are, but place was closed with a note about sickness (and then death) of owner’s wife and then owner’s cancer.

Looks like people are leaving this town — doubt there is any perspective for it in a future.
Private property! But who needs it?
Stayed there 3 nights (that’s the limit, although only 2 of 6 sites were occupied).
Well, I have to admit, that when I left and drove to the highway I’ve noticed that Poor Boy metal art place. So the other one I’ve found wasn’t the right one. But since I was on my way already I didn’t stop. Next time I guess… 🙂
